McCann Backflow Preventer
Most municipal plumbing codes in the US and Canada require an ASSE 1022-certified backflow preventer on any carbonated beverage system connected to the water supply. This is the OEM replacement unit for McCann Big Mac carbonators - an Anderson Brass ABF-1 Series vented dual check valve, ASSE 1022 compliant, built specifically for carbonator water inlet protection.
The job of this part is straightforward: it stops CO2-charged water from flowing back into the clean water supply. Inside a commercial carbonation system, the carbonator tank pressurizes on every pump cycle. Without a functioning backflow preventer, that pressurized CO2 and water mixture can push back through the water line. The dual check design catches that - if the primary check gets fouled and leaks, the secondary check holds and the CO2 vents safely out the vent barb rather than reaching the water inlet or building plumbing.
Constructed from lead-free brass with a stainless steel discharge retainer. Working pressure range is 10–200 PSI, working temperature up to 130°F. Connections are 3/8" male flare inlet × 3/8" NPT outlet - standard fittings for McCann carbonator water line hookups. Installs vertically or horizontally. The internal construction is simple to clean and service and a repair kit is available separately if needed down the road.
