CO2 & Nitrogen Gas Tanks
If you own a kegerator, there’s one component you simply CANNOT do without - it’s gas. CO2 or nitrogen are required for proper cooling, storing, and dispensing draft beer.
Therefore, a wise beer enthusiast should always have an extra CO2 or N2 cylinder in stock to keep the beer flowing continuously.
How to Choose a CO2 Tank
First of all, you should decide on the gas - carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Those who dispense regular types of beer should go with a CO2 tank for kegerator. If you’re planning to dispense Guinness beer or other stouts, nitrogen tank for kegerator is required.
Next comes the size - kegerator CO2 tanks come in the following capacities:
- 2.5 lbs
- 5 lbs
- 10 lbs
- 20 lbs
Most home-brewers prefer the 5-pound CO2 cylinder since it has the optimal size and weight. Plus, it’s really easy to carry around and transport if needed.
Finally, there’s a choice of material from which the tank is made - aluminum or steel. Most experts would agree that aluminum cylinders are better because they are more lightweight and resistant to corrosion.
