This is a Danfoss analog thermostat that uses a capillary tube and sensing bulb rather than a digital display. The bulb mounts on or near the evaporator, and as it reads the temperature there, it switches the compressor on and off directly, no separate control board involved.
It's built as a non-freeze type, meaning the compressor cuts out at a temperature that gives the evaporator coil time to de-ice on its own between cycles, so it doesn't need a separate defrost heater or timer. That makes it a fit for normal-temperature refrigeration such as kegerators and back bar coolers, not deep freezers.
