Brewery Glycol Chiller Sizing Calculator

Find the right BrewChill Pro glycol chiller for your fermentation, cold crash or tank holding needs.

How This Works
We calculate the cooling load for each tank from your process, volume and (for fermentation) sugar content and attenuation - using the ASHRAE/Boulton 280 BTU/lb-extract engineering constant - then match it to a BrewChill Pro model. No BTU knowledge required. This is an engineering sizing estimate, not a guaranteed figure - for safety-critical or unusually tight installations, have our team review the result before ordering.
1 Units

1 Beer Barrel (BBL) = 31 US gallons = 117.35 litres.

2 Tanks Cooling Simultaneously

Only include tanks that need cooling at the same time - not your total tank count. If you own 12 tanks but only 3 are active right now, enter those 3.

Fermentation Hold: ongoing cooling to hold an actively fermenting tank at temperature - sugar content (°Brix) and attenuation drive the load. Cold Crash: pulling a tank down to a lower temperature over a set time - calculates liquid sensible-heat pull-down, with tank/piping/room heat gain covered by the ambient and system allowances below, not calculated directly. This is the total heat that must be removed, not a guarantee of pull-down speed - whether you actually hit your target time also depends on jacket surface area, glycol supply temperature, and flow rate, none of which this calculator has visibility into. Tank / Brite Holding: maintaining a non-fermenting tank at a steady cold temperature against room heat gain - an estimated load from a simplified vessel-maintenance method, not a full surface-area/insulation heat-transfer calculation.

4 Environment & System

Enter the total supply-and-return glycol run (not just the one-way distance from chiller to tank), or follow your manufacturer's rated loop-length definition if it differs - our model loop limits below are based on total run.

This checks basic zone/loop/voltage compatibility against our standard lineup - it's a preliminary configuration filter, not a complete control-system design (valves, dedicated pumps, flow balancing, etc. may still need engineering review for complex setups).
