What Is a Tailpiece?

Tailpieces are a type of fittings used together with a nut and washer for various hose connections, including the ones commonly found in draft beer systems for connecting air lines and beer lines. Tailpieces can be made of chrome-plated brass or stainless steel - the latter is preferable for homebrew systems.

A 90-degree elbow tail piece is used for certain draft beer system configurations where the setup requires a right angle.

How to Use a Tailpiece

You insert the barbed end of the tailpiece into a beer tube or hose (thus allowing it to grip the interior wall of the tube) and then secure it with an appropriate-size clamp.
